Version 2 of my homebrew controller

Excellent work Bob. The code looks like a great start indeed! Fine job... I think this might be my next little electronics project. Almost looks too easy with the modules too.

    Just wondering?

I have not had problems with my Stoker either. It just works. Solid as a brick in my opinion... Most folks don't have problems with the Stoker itself but more likely the problems you see are configuration questions about setting up their home network, wireless routers, remote access, using...

    Stokerlog Version 6

OK will do. I am planning a couple of over-nighters during the next week or two (weather permitting) so that will be a good test. I haven't used my Stoker in a while anyway, so this should be fun. Thanks for your great contribution to the art of smoking!

    Stokerlog Version 6

Hey Amir, If I haven't upgraded my Stoker's firmware in a while (2.0.259), will this new version of StokerLog (with the new fan data values) work for me? I've been pretty happy with my combination of StokerLog and Stoker and as they say "if it ain't broke..." but I would like to try out the new...

Not So Great Frozen Butts results

I cooked 4 butts on Saturday/Sunday that had been in the deep freezer in my garage since February and they were just as juicy and tasty as the fresh ones I did last month. I rubbed and salted the butts and put them right in the smoker, frozen solid. My freezer is not frost-free; I have to...

do i need a router to run the stoker

You are right. Most modems do not "work as a router." But almost all broadband "modems" incorporate router and firewall functions and two routers in series will cause packet collisions more so than a single router and that can affect the apparent speed of network traffic. Whether you notice...

do i need a router to run the stoker

It is true that almost all consumer broadband "modems" these days incorporate routing and firewall features (even those having only one Ethernet port.) Adding a router between the broadband modem and the computer can result in a considerably slower internet experience. If you use a separate...

do i need a router to run the stoker

A switch or even a hub should work as far as I know but I haven't tried one. Good catch Larry!

do i need a router to run the stoker

Most computers have only one Ethernet port and if that is the case, your modem is probably plugged in there (unless it is a USB modem). Some cable modems have multiple Ethernet ports so check for multiple ports on the modem first. If there is only the one port, then you probably could use a...

    Sick of Cherry on poultry

I tend to mix apple, cherry and hickory rather than go with any one wood. Change the proportions of course depending on the mood. I like cherry but I can see how it would get boring to use only one smoke wood for any particular meat.

    stoker v6

Thanks so much Amir... I am looking forward to trying this version out. Regarding the bug where Stoker doesn't "start up properly," what does it look like? Is it the one where the blower stays on? Just want to be ready if that bug hits. Oh and I love the idea of switching the box off to lift...
