Side note on the Fireboard. i just discovered I can use my Thermoworks Chef Alarm/Smoke Pro-Series probes with it. The cables are shorter, but I am able to multipurpose my probe collection between difference devices.
Stubs is a popular choice. I use the natural charcoal briquettes. Only 5% vegetable binder and no sawdust, limestone, etc. Lowes sells it around here for about $9 a bag. Not as cheap as Kingsford, but I quit buying that when they switched to the new formula. I have used Royal Oak lumps, as well.
Thanks, Bob. I am in a boat similar to yours, in that I would really like to try the Heat Meter/Link Meter controller, but don't have the time or desire to monkey with all the Linux stuff and board designs right now. The Auber looks like a reasonable alternative.
