    Smoked Carrots ???

Very interesting thought. We enjoy roasted root vegetables - beets, turnips, rutabaga, carrots, garlic cloves, whatever's on hand. Toss 'em in olive oil, a little salt, pepper, and a healthy pinch of dried herb. Roast in the oven. I'm gonna try "smoke roasting" them in the WSM and taste what...

Best BBQ restaurant in SF Bay Area

Hey Chuck, Flints is closed. It seems the owner has a gambling problem (or so I was told). The last time I ate there, as we were leaving, I spied a young thug checking his gun tucked into his waistband as he entered the joint. Luckily, he didn't notice me, but I told my friend driving "GO, GO...

    Stick Blender

It may not be easy, but I gotta recommend she checks the feel and fit. If you notice, the KitchenAid has a nice big rubber button and a shape which should be easy for her hand. We had one, a Braun I believe, and the thing had a terrible shape and awkward button that my wife couldn't push for...

    Dr's Orders

I see. So it's a global, multinational, fully cooperative conspiracy of drug manufacturers, universities, and health researchers? And our only hope at the truth is via a small collection of rogue, underfunded outliers who perform clinically relevant research when they're not writing cookbooks or...

    Dr's Orders

Wow Kev, your position is surprising. I consider you an intelligent man. I mean c'mon, Ravnsko(v) lacks a clear understanding of the Scientific Method, has been openly criticized by his peers for his "research" methods, and simply chooses to ignore contradicting data. Taube is a great writer...

Loin backs - Sam's or Costco experience?

The odor Don mentioned happens sometimes with cryovac wrapped meats. I've never had a problem. I buy the three pack baby-backs from Costco, and have had no complaints over several years. As an added bonus, the last couple of times the racks have had the membrane removed.

Looking for the bottom 17" grate

The charcoal grate for the Weber 22" kettle is the same as the lower cooking grate for the WSM. They're an exact match, but the WSM cooking grate is nickel plated and the kettle charcoal grate is not. It never mattered to me. Any place that sells Weber replacement grates should have the kettle...

    Cleaning Smoker racks

I use the dishwasher to clean my grates - been doing it for years without any problems. A couple times a season I grab the grates out of the kettle, the Smokey Joe and the WSM and throw 'em in all together using the "pot scrubber" cycle. It gets virtually everything off but some smoke stain...

What is the Best procedure to smoke, store & reheat ribs?

I do the same as Kevin K, but I've found that about 30 minutes is best if you want to be sure of no disappointments. I've jumped the gun more than a few times to find lukewarm ribs after opening the bag. Paul G. made a very relevant point as well; the bones can easily poke holes in the...

Anyone know the nutritional value of cooked BBQ meat?

All I know is it does a great job of nourishing my soul.

    New Pricing info - kinda

I will state for the record, that I will be buying the new WSM 22" as soon as it become available -- at any price. Frankly, I remember what I paid for my current WSM, and considering the value of what it's done for me and my enjoyment, I would pay double. I know the quality, I know the...

Go OUT to eat? That's crazy talk.

That's it, he's hooked. Reel him in. Good job, and nice write up.

    Membrane trouble on spares

Bought a cryovac three pack of baby backs from Costco on Saturday and all three had the membranes removed. There was a small piece still intact on one of the racks, but it was about the size of a playing card. I'm not complaining!

    New WSMs for 2009

I'd like to think this is a sign that the major producers aren't going to be giving up on charcoal based grills. I know gassers are enjoying quite a surge in popularity, but for some, charcoal will always be where it's at. I think Weber really hit the sweet spot with the updated feature set...

    Engineering Challenge - Mini WSM

Hey Michael, I got your email re: WSM Mini. I used the Smokey Joe Gold, as the vents are on the side much like the WSM. Since I built the first Mini, I've built a few others and assisted friends with Minis of their own. I can tell you from first hand knowledge that the Smokey Joe Silver is...
