WSM or Cajun Bandit

All, we just moved and my wife made me a deal that if I left my old log smoker at the house I could get a new smoker. Been married to Webers since my first kettle 15 years ago. Was going to pull the trigger on a 22.5 WSM, but started reading up on the Cajun bandit conversion on these forums and now not sure which would be best. I have a 22.5 OTS sitting around ever since I got a new 26.75 OTG. Thoughts?

You'll be happy with either one, but for what it's worth, I love my CB. I use it in competition, backyard cooks, etc. A 22.5 WSM is reeeeally nice, though. I also have a WSM, and love it equally. I think it just depends on if you want a dedicated piece. I like the CB because I can remove it and have a kettle. But if you're ok with having a separate grill and smoker, I'd probably go with a WSM. They just really are very, very nice, especially the 22.5. It will serve all your needs.

Thanks Randy that is helpful. I like the price of the CB conversion, but seems like the real thing is the real thing. Since my OTS is a 99 vintage I don't have the thermometer which the WSM will come with.

I have a Cajun Bandit and really like it a lot. It is very well built and works like a charm. And as Randy noted, it's very convenient to remove it and have a kettle. I use it on my Performer and can crank out a lot of meat on it when needed, which is basically why I bought it. I like the WSM but rarely have need for the capacity of the 22.5" size.

I would probably look at the Smoke EZ if I had a 26.75 OTG. It just strikes me as an efficient use of resources.

I love my 26.75 setup realllllly well. And I like the fact that the diameter facilitates cooking almost anything. I can cook 4 briskets in mine, with some 18" round cooling racks that I have that I stack on top of each other at 90deg intervals. Works outstanding. I can also cook an awful lot of stuff on this one:

Hey all thanks for the thoughtful replies. Had no idea that smoke ex made a deal for the 26.75 OTG. Was ready to pull the trigger on the CB yesterday when I found a 22.5 WSM on CL for 200 bucks!!!! 9 months old and looked brand new. Came with a cover and a heavy duty door. Seemed like a great deal and a tad cheaper than the CL. Had to drive 2.5 hours to get it, but started early and still had time to smoke a couple racks of pork ribs.

Look in' forward to really trying it out. Been using a log smoker for the last 15 years so this is all new territory for me. Never used a water bowl before...should be fun to try some new things out. Thanks again all for the advice!!

Sounds like a good find! I'm sure you'll enjoy the WSM. I know I do, and I'm not the only one. Congrats and happy smoking!
