WSM Door Modification

Anyone do anything to make the door air tight? I read someone used spray adhesive and heat retardant felt from a big green egg to make the door air tight. Claimed it gave total temp control when playing with air vents and stopped the smoke from escaping through the door. My smoker is perfect just the way it is and have not modified it in the least. Just curious if anyone has experimented with the door.

I just ordered one myself, the thin door on my WSM has been craptastic at best for a couple months. The metal around the knob is all distorted from the way the knob attaches to the door. I'm gonna try to make it work a bit better when the new door comes in.

I woke up this morning to find a box under the Christmas tree from cajunbandit. Put the idea in my wife's head last week after hearing some of the responses from you guys. Mike, thanks for being a great neighbor and giving me that link. As soon as I can tear into it and assemble it and smoke some Q I will share pics. Happy Holidays!

Did they kill you on shipping? I looked at the Cajun Bandit door. They wanted $20 bucks for shipping, seems crazy. Killed the deal for me.

Shipping was 15$ but it was a gift from my wife for Xmas. 37$ total for a nice Xmas gift was how I look at it. Try not to focus on shipping aspect but on 37$ for a nice durable new door for your smoker.

I saw the shipping was a little high also but ended up getting one for Christmas too so it worked out for me in the end.

I have the Cajun Bandit door. I still get a little smoke escaping around the door but I don't care. The original WSM door was really leaky after 3 years of (ab)use. I got the upgrade for aesthetics as much as anything. I also got the stainless charcoal ring. It's pretty sweet too.

I just now got around to installing the door. Old hardware and latch were easy enough to remove and reassemble. My new door was really tight at the hinge to the point were I was pushing the smoker over to shut the door. Had to flatten out the top a smidge to get a better fit but in doing so the top edges are not as tight. I found a happy medium after tweaking it back and forth for awhile. My stock door was fine but I like the look of this one way better. Can not wait to try out the new mod.

Well stated and that's exactly how I looked at it once it arrived. Just looking at the product cost plus shipping was a tough pill to swallow.
But once I got the door & installed it, the overall cost was well worth it.

Guys- Last week I went to the Cajun bandit website to order a SS replacement door for my 22.5 WSM. I saw that they are out of of stock for those doors. I sent them a message on their website asking them when they would be back in stock....I have not gotten a reply from Cajun Bandit. Does anyone know of another site that sells these doors? Does anyone have a phone number to reach Cajun Bandit? Thanks in advance.

When I emailed around Christmas it took a few days to get back a few replies. Try again as he got back with me on every email and he usually gets them back in stock pretty quick or can tell you when he will be getting them in....
