WSM 22.5 Hatch

Hello, everyone - I'm a new WSM 22.5 owner and am taking this unit out for its first cook (two chickens, and a rack of ribs).

The forums have been extremely valuable understanding the subtle temperature controls of this smoker. However, I'm having a lot of problem with the front hatch - especially the locking knob. The locking tab is loose and doesn't respond to turning the external knob.

Is this a common complaint of this smoker? I've been in touch with Weber Support for a replacement (the second replacement - the original door was bent & did not fit when it arrived) and am waiting on some response.

Beside the hatch, I really enjoy the smoker - appreciate any help or suggestions for dealing with this slight defect.

Have you tried holding the inner latch with one hand and turning the handle clockwise till it tightens?
Common problem when turning it counter-clockwise is that it loosens up a tad.

Thanks for the replies - the locking mechanism completely fell apart - both washers appear to be bent.

The party's over until the new replacement door arrives.

Meanwhile - the chickens look great. The deeper meat appears to be pink & undercooked, but the birds are resting and I hope that'll finish off the cooking.

Thanks again for the tips -
