WSM 22.5 air leaks

A 22.5 WSM is pretty new to me (6 smokes so far). I was a little concerned when I found that I couldn't put the fire out by closing everything. In fact, that's what I did to get a low temp for smoking. I rearranged the location of the door (turned the middle section) so the sun would be behind me, and to my surprise the fire went out this time. I couldn't see any out of round, but I guess there's a little in both the base and center section, and turning one kind of fixed it. Maybe now I can get some lower temp cook time.

I've been using my 18 1/2" WSM for over a year. I tweaked the door a bit, and it stopped leaking. As Doug said, with use comes crud, which makes it pretty tight.

Good luck,

Bob

WSMs don't extinguish charcoal as efficiently as Weber Kettles. It really doesn't bother me as I don't like to use partially burned fuel when I'm cooking with a WSM. I have no problem using it for grilling in my Kettle.
