I've been the proud owner of a 22.5 WSM since this past March. Couldn't be happier. As luck may have it I came across a 18.5 on CL in need of a new home for only $40! Aside from one small dime sized ding in the lid, the outside is in near perfect shape. The grates on the other hand are another story. The middle cooking grate is beyond salvageable, the charcoal grate is only about half there and it was missing the top cooking grate all together.
I'm sure the top grate is the same one that is used on any 18.5 kettle and will be easy to find. From what I've found though, the middle grate is only 17 inches. That seems to be the same dimension as the charcoal grate for a 22.5 weber kettle. Also, it looks like the charcoal grate for the WSM is 14.5 inches which would be the same as a Smoke Joe cooking grate right???
You can find these grates considerably cheaper than ordering the actual WSM grate part numbers. Has anyone else found this to be true and used the Kettle grates in their WSM? Any feedback would be appreciated. I'm itching to get some new grates bought and fire her up!
Thanks in advance for your help.
