Winter usage and side burner

Good evening eveyone. I have a Spirit E-310 and is my first gas grill and wanted to use it during the winter also. Is there anything I should be aware of when using a gas grill during the winter months? Fyi, I stay in the chicago area so you have an idea of how cold it gets. Next, I bought the 310 thinking I wouldn't use the sideburner. Now I find myself cooking breakfast on grill more often than in the house and could really use the sideburner. Would Weber sell me the parts to add a side burner even though my serial numbers indicates mines didn't come with one?

What I've read on the forum and my own personal experience Weber's policy is not to sell parts to upgrade their grills, only exact replacement parts. When I was going to change my Genesis 1000 from propane to NG they wouldn't sell me the NG manifold. So I went to ereplacementparts.com and bought it there. So yes you can get the parts but not from Weber. You may find it cheaper to sell your existing grill and find a spirit with a side burner on CL.
Where I live it doesn't get that cold so I will leave that to the folks who live in the frozen tundra to answer.
