Why so complicated?

I was looking at the HeaterMeter and the design seems overly complicated. Why so many different parts with wiring going to a remote raspberry pi?

Why not use a small ESP module to control the servos / motors and provide WiFi communications all in one package?

The HeaterMeter does not require the RasPi, but the RasPi provides the config interface, charting, the ability to backup and restore configs, email and push notification alerting, a wired network connection if wifi isn't an option.

Someone here did make the whole thing work with an ESP years ago.

Feel free to post your redesign here.

Did the ESP design details get posted? I'll have to dig for them.
