Who pierces/Jaaccards their tri-tip before cooking?

Do you pierce or Jaccard your tri-tip or not?
Only when marinating or not?
With a rub, or not?

Only when marinating. Mostly I rub tris but on the occasions I marinate I pierce or Jaccard, depending where I'm cooking.
 
So far, I have not found it necessary to Jaccard the tri-tip. But I do use it on a smoked round steak that I do low and slow, and it works very well.
