Where to drill the holes?

Hey guy's, I'm about to bite the bullet and try to drill grommet holes in the side of my 18.5 WSM. Any suggestions on where to make the holes at? Should they be close to the grate's? Thank's . John

I would drill them just above each grate.

Personally, I would buy the eyelets from BBQ Guru which replace 2 of the grate strap screws. No Drilling!

Not sure what thermometer you have, but keep this in mind for the BBQ Guru eyelets:

NOTE: The Maverick ET-732 has a larger probe and does NOT fit through the eyelet holes.

Good lookin' out Derek, I was totally going to buy those eyelets but I just bought the ET-732 a few weeks ago...BUMMER
