Really want to make some bacon of my own but have a hard time finding bellies around here. All my pork sources form hams/shoulders do not sell them. Whats the going price for them for you guys? I found on specialty place but they want 7.49lb skin on and 7.99lb skin off....I might as well keep buying from the store for that price...

Mike, lots of people have had luck at Asian or Mexican markets. Personally, I buy them at an open-to-the-public restaurant supply store. They're not cheap...But that's not why you're making bacon, is it?

Thanks Gregg,
I really want to make it so I can make my own flavors and eat something I did.. :) The price point was to show the wife how much better it was to get going with the smoker again making our own LOL.

If I lived back in NY ( Fairport/Rochester area) I know there was a meat market at the public market on the weekend that had everything at decent prices yrs ago ...We have a bunch of Mexican markets down here so I will check them.
Thanks

Mike, if I could convince my wife to move from Syracuse to the RDX area I would gladly give up easily accessible pork bellies.

Check to see if you have a restaurant depot near you...for me, I cqn get them at my local grocery stores for under $3 lb, one under $2lb.

I was able to get some nice thicker ones at a Asian store in Raleigh NC...Bartered it down to 3.09 lb from the 3.29 :) Bought 3 nice ones and already skinned them and will start the seasoning and first stage Mon. They were already trimmed down to 8" x 24" or so and not the full bellies like I found at the other places. Found a restaurant depot but its a 1 1/2hr drive each way and a Latino store that had them but they were really thin full ones at 3.59lb

How is everyone getting a membership at the Depot anyways?? I dont have a business license or tax exempt status...

I found mine at a small privately owned/operated grocery store. I'm finding that the smaller places are far more willing to accomodate than the big chain places. He said that he can order them in and have them on hand in a day or two.

I found a farm around here and got a 7lb for 2.79 a lb without skin. Can't beat that price. I know my local butcher has them for 4.50 a lb with skin off.

Mike.....When I lived in NY I had a few of them I knew of. Down here in NC they either don't sell them or they are too far away. I`ll have to stick to Asian store for now so I at least have something.

Nice name by the way from another Mike L...LOL

Thanks Mike. Hopefully the BIg Mike won't make sense much longer. I've lost 140 lbs these last 7 months. Watching these forums and smoking meat hasn't made that easy.

That is an accomplishment to be proud of!! Congrats on the 140lb loss.

Update on the pork though. Found a person that is sending 2-3 yorkshire pigs to process. The first two are sold as half-shares but I may be able to get the full belly from the third. Pasture raised and no antibiotics or growth hormones.. Waiting to hear back from him on second response..Looks like a good source for some thicker bellies..

Down here in south Georgia I get approx 24# of belly, two of them, for between $2 - $2.50 a pound - skin on. Prices of bellies/sides will fluctuate.
