Well, I couldn't help myself - bought an S-330 off of Craigslist today

for $350!

I recently obtained a very inexpensive '98 genesis platinum, but when I saw this yesterday I knew I was unlikely to ever find a better deal on a natural gas S-330, so I picked it up this morning. Other than being quite filthy inside it appears to be in great condition. The original owner had purchased it new in 2011.

I do have one question about it though. This one comes with a 1/2 inch quick connect hose, and I have a 3/8 on the house. In reading some other posts about this it seems that Weber may have switched to a 1/2 for the earlier 330 models, but then later switched back to 3/8ths? Unfortunately the grill only came with the hose (male connector) and not the female connector that attaches to the gas line.

I'm curious if it is better to swap the connector on the house, or if I can buy a 1/2 - 3/8ths quick connect adaptor and still the the requisite BTU's.

I promised my wife I would sell the old Genesis, so it will probably be heading to CL soon to help defray the cost of the S-330.

Thanks!

Nice score! I have a E320 I got off CL in NG and love it. I had the opposite problem 1/2" at the House and 3/8" hose but I was able to get a 1/2 to 3/8 reducer.

Good Find!

There's not a general size rating for the hoses/fittings according to my limited understanding..... e.g: shorter hose can be smaller, longer hose needs larger diameter.

Anyone know a pipefitter on the board?

Well I called up Weber and was able to order the 1/2" quick disconnect piece, and it looks like I can get a new bell reducing coupling (3/4 to 1/2) and short piece of half inch pipe for about $4 from Home depot. I already have the pipe dope so I should be in business when it arrives. I seriously kicked around the idea of ordering their Stainless grill maintenance kit, but realized that as much as it would be nice to have the spider guard brush and the cookbox scraper, they weren't items I really needed to have.

nice - remember to try the thick soapy water (heavy on the soap), and use your nose. Sounds like it's a plumbed in natural gas? I installed the gas (and water & venting) for my pool heater (outside in an attached shed) and a replacement water heater (in my basement), no problems... I had a new furnace installed by pros & I kept catching whiffs of natural gas so they came back out & fixed it. The last thing I did, was ~1.5 years ago I upgraded from an electric to gas range in my kitchen. I ran the flex, bought the fittings, & had my cousin whose a pipefitter come make the connections after work.

It is plumbed in - 3/4 pipe sticking out the wall on the backside of my house. It has the shutoff valve on it as well, and I always turn it off after each cook, so I am not super concerned. In this case I just have to remove the bell reducer that is already there and replace it with the new one. I hooked up our gas dryer on my own and that made me a whole lot more nervous to do, since those fittings are compression fittings only and specifically state not to use any pipe dope on them.
