Welding blanket on 26" Kettle

Wanted to see if anyone uses a welding blanket when smoking on there 26". If they do how do you put it on there with the holes at the top. I just got a welding blanket for XMAS and never used on the WSM or the Kettle when I smoke. If I use want to make sure im using it right. Thanks

I would imagine one would carefully mark and then cut a hole followed up with a needle and thread to mend the cut.
