Weber System Grate update

Just checked, I've had my System grate for 2 years and 7 months.
I average at least 3 cooks a week on it, or nearly 400 so far.
It has held up extremely well, and should last for a long time yet since it's much more heavy-duty than the others.
(8 lbs. vs 5 lbs,)
I think all of the original finish is still there, if I would take the time to clean it well.

Thought I'd pass this along for anyone on the fence about buying one.
To me, it is a must for the Performer, since one can start a chimney or 2 baskets of charcoal without removing the whole shebang.

I agree with Bob on this one. I’ve had mine for at least a few years and have the sear grate and skillet. Like Bob I grill all year 3 to 4 times per week. The sear grate is showing some age but that’s probably do to poor maintenance on the owner’s part. This has definitely added to our enjoyment of the Performer. If you grill often and own a 22” kettle, this is perhaps the best option you can add.

well i would love to have one but cost throws me off as i'm just tight. hope to find one cheap one day.
may just buy the basic and buy one insert at a time.

Bob, DON'T clean it! Honestly when I first bought my performer I cleaned the grate with an SOS pad took the finish off, and my food tasted like soap no matter how much I rinsed it. The fellow at my local BBQ store told me I took the coating off and that was why. So I ended buying another one anyway. I just brush it as clean as I can.

I see that just the grate is 40 bucks on the Weber site, $35 ship-to-store at Walmart.
There was a special deal on Amazon when it first came out, I paid $30.

Thanks for the tip Regina!
Not much danger in me over-cleaning anything.:)

Actually, the other day I was wiping down my grills, as I often do, and thought maybe I should wash my truck one of these days too.

WOW! I'm a clan freak! I use chore boys on my grates on my smoker and I just brush the greats on the kettles. I too agree with Rolf and Bob. I invested in the great system for my 22 kettle and it's worth the $$$. IMHO :)

I liked mine so much I kept it when I sold my 22. I place mine on fire bricks on edge in the 26 sometimes. I really like using the CI fry pan also. Wish they made one for the 26"
