Weber Spirit e-310 vs Spirit e-310 GBS - Home Depot special

Hi all!
Just purchased my very first Weber grill yesterday, and ended up with a Weber Spirit E-310 GBS (Gourmet BBQ System) exclusively sold by Home Depot.
I haven't assembled the thing yet, as I got a little curious as to what the specific differences between the "original" e-310 and the GBS are.
As far as the looks goes, only thing different I can see is that the doors differ - the original has a metal door covering the storage unit, the GBS has a perforated rubber/plastic cover.
The grates are different too - the GBS comes with a cut-out for the BBQ system and includes the griddle, the original is - well - original, normal grates. The GBS is stated to have Cast Aluminum vs Porcelain on the original - which is preferable?
Burners ect looks and is stated to be the exact same...
I got the grill for $475 as they had it marked wrong - should have been $499...
So, to get to my question - have any of you used/seen/reviewed the GBS?
I can't find anything online about it, and I want to ensure I didn't purchase an inferior product...
I can still take the thing back, but seems to me the two are almost identical, except for the changes listed above...
Correction: Just saw one review online now:

Thanks a lot for any input you might have :-)

Daniel;

I have not ever seen or used on of these grills, but I would like welcome you to the board and enjoy your new grill.

Daniel....I didn't know that Weber was still making gas grills... ;) Give the forum some time and the real experts will be here to get your question(s) answered shortly. Welcome to the forum!

Thanks a lot for the welcome, guys!
I frequent a lot of car forums, so I know it sometime takes some time for the experts to chime in :-)
In the meantime, if any of you have any input on the "Cast aluminum" vs "Porcelain" discussion, feel free to chime in :-)

Daniel, first of all, welcome to the forum! There is a lot of insite and knowledge here. No question is too basic.
As far as the grill,I haven't seen one like that. Fire that sucker up and let us know how it does! And remember,we like,no,need pics! :D

Fired the sucker up yesterday! Performed very well indeed - got hot quick, left good grill marks, and actually overcooked my chicken (user error)... I'm really happy with it so far, will test it more extensively over the next weeks :-)
Pictures! Of course:

Daniel: I have my eye on the 310. I'm saving my credit card points, and I should have enough in about 8 years. Anyway, I have a Genesis 1000, which I bought back in 1996. Replaced a few parts over the years, and it still works great. I'm a fan of anything Weber. In my humble opinion, you can't go wrong with the model you have, or any model for that matter.

I'm curious, though. As shown in your photos the grill area looks small. It could be just the angle of the camera. Also, is there one of those swivel basket thingies hanging from the inside of the lid? I never used the one on my grill, and it gets in the way when I do beer can chicken; so, I remove it from time to time. And in the model you have, I guess if you wanted to smoke something, you could slip the pan with wood chips under the grate from the open circle?

Over the years I've had the "regular" grates, the cast iron grates, and most recently the porcelain grates and flavorizer bars. With the porcelain the recommendation is NOT to use a scraper, although you can still use a brush. I don't really focus on searing or anything like that. I use my gas grill primarily for quick cooks, and I save the charcoal grill for the longer cooks.

Best of luck with your purchase.

Hi Eugene!
The cooking area between the normal 310 spirit and the GBS is the exact same.
So no issues there.
It's not as large as the genesis, but seeing them next to each other in the store really turned it for me - the spirit e310 was plenty large for me, my wife and the occasional guests.
I don't have any swivel basket thingies I believe, but not exactly sure what you're referring too... There's nothing I can remove except for the keep-warm shelf :-)
In regards to smoking things, then yes, I would think you could quite easily slip the pan down through the hole.
I'll see how the grates hold up, but they look sturdie!

Inaugural cook on my new Weber Spirit® E-310™ on Mother's Day was a hit. I also got the HD GBS configuration. Very happy with it tho will likely mod it to replace the front panel with a hinged door.
