Just picked this up. I dont think its ever been outside except to cook on and looks like it hardly has been used for its age.

Got the manual and the original receipt. Purchased 1994.

Everything is there, I just had to take it apart to get it in my truck and its raining so I didnt put it all back together for pics. Look how clean the manifold is !

Im assuming the wood was replaced with durawood at some point by Weber but hey you cant get everything you want...

So the guy purchased it in 1994 but is this grill a 1992 based on the serial number ?
Based on the serial number we know it's not a 1994 or newer model, so it has to be older. The interesting thing is I've never seen a Platinum series grill that old. The durawood was standard on that model though.

Regarding the durawood, thats interesting because if you look at the manual, the images look to have the wood handles (the three slots typical with wood)

Also if you look at the receipt, looks like the lid was purchased separately. The grill was 609.99 and the lid was 90 bucks.

That's super interesting

I've seen where the picture on the manual doesn't quite match the actual grill. I think in some cases they just used a prior year manual. The separate lid purchase is interesting. Overall there is definitely something about that grill that doesn't add up with what I know about them. That just makes it that much more interesting.

if the platinum 3200 has a side burner and dual flip up tables, @Steve Hoch what model is a platinum with dual table and no side burner?

I recall you followed the platinum model numbers.

edit: I see in the picture of the guide Platinum 2200. Makes sense. Genesis 2000, plus a RH flip up table

Also one other thing guys, the person wasn't home when I picked it up. It was outside covered and i took it apart in the pouring rain.

I opened the lid and the owner left me a brand new bible inside the grill....

Also Steve, another thing that makes me think the durawood was replacements for the actual wood is because there isnt that spacer/plate on the left side next to the cookbox. Hence the one bowed durawood slat. My 3000 came with wood slats originally and also didnt come with that spacer.

All that being said, the grill is so clean i dont see how the wood would have gone bad if it did come with the wood originally.

Who knows.

You make a good point except that I have never seen a Platinum series grill with wood slats. The spacer bracket may not have been an included part at that point, or the owner just didn't put it on. You have the owners manual so it may be in the assembly instructions.

In 1994 they changed the serial numbering system so that you could tell what year it was. It can't be a '94.

You might be on to something. Do you know when the serial number sticker moved from the bottom to side?

I can't read anything off the ones on the side, and none of the stickers on the bottom of the control panel have two letter date codes.
