Hello all, newbie having just found the site from the UK.

My old kettle owes me nothing (AD serial bought in summer 2010). However, crazing of the outside of the firebowl is starting to get out of hand. Is this something I should just forget about and use it until it dies or contact Weber about would you say?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

My 26" kettle has the same issues. It's 9 years old. I think there is a 10 year warranty on "burn through". I've been trying to contact Weber on the phone and havent been able to speak with anyone and they don't answer emails. You might want to try giving them a call and asking about it. Maybe you'll have better luck with the international support.

If they dont cover it under warranty and you want to use the grill as long as possible, either keep it seasoned with some oil or you can sand the bad areas, clean really well with Xylol, let dry then touch up with some black high heat BBQ paint. Won't look 100% original, but will probably give you another 10+ years of usage.

Looks nice and fresh. Did you end up touching it up with some BBQ paint?
Thanks, yes wire wooled it to remove the worst of the rust spots and then black hi-temp paint with a car touch up brush. It's a slightly browner shade of black but you can only tell up close.
Over here the price of the 43cm grate is £25 so it just won't be worth getting the part when the old one rusts through given the relative price of a whole used kettle in better condition.
