Water Basin

Hi all, new to smoking. What is the purpose of foil lining the exterior of the water basin?

Jerry - it make for easier cleanup. All you really have to do is pull the foil off and throw it away.

Foiling the exterior is just a personal preference to keep the bottom clean from smoke and soot. I prefer to keep it clean for handling purposes as well setting down, especially if I bring it in.

You will not have to rewrap the bottome after each use unless you need to wash out the inside from using water. (water will get under it from washing)

Thanks, guys. I thought perhaps wrapping the exterior helped deflect heat, so then it only for easier clean up.
