Walnut as Smoking wood

Hi Guys and Gals,
It's been ages since I visited. I forgot what great info I was missing. Anyway, I recently turned a buddy on to smoking and he's got the bug bad! The other day he mentioned wanting to use walnut to smoke with. I told him I don't recall hearing of anyone using walnut before.
Any info would be appreciated!!

Black walnut, the only one I've used, can be bitter if too much is used or even if used alone. It's better, imo, mixed with a fruit wood where it will add a little bite, and the quantity should be relatively small.

I remember reading somewhere that pecan is the little brother to hickory and black walnut is the big brother. After reading that I knew there was no reason for me to even try walnut as I can hardly stand hickory.

As far as being useable as smoke wood I have seen it on many lists so smoke away.

Walnut is a nasty wood to smoke with. I don't use it at all
