Found this on my front porch…

Large box containing 115 pounds of briquettes. I am afraid what I will find when I open the bags. There was a lot of noise when I opened and carried the bags to my shed. Small pieces moving around.

Very interesting post. The key word for me is "bags". That indicates that this order could have have been split into more manageable boxes. For reasons of cost, or being lazy, or keeping your order together, somebody at Walmart decided to put this all in one box that would be very difficult to ship.

So who is at fault, Walmart? The shipper?

Also, how much breakage is acceptable? Does somebody owe you 115lbs. of replacement charcoal? If not, what is the remedy?

Return it to Walmart. They shouldn't have shipped a package weighing that much with FedEx (assuming it's their usual shipper). IMO, the shipper shouldn't have accepted the package, knowing there was a pretty good chance it would be damaged. This is a product of a sweetheart deal between Walmart & FedEx.

Update-
Went onto the WM website and did and online chat about this issue.
They refunded me the full amount and are not requiring me to send back the fuel.
This took just a few minutes to get resolved.

I would rather purchase these items in person but they don't have the selection in southern Oregon that they do online...
I've ordered three times from WM and have had issues two times...so not a good success rate on their shipping of briquettes.

We will see what kind of fuel is useable in those bags...

Great to hear that Walmart was helpful and you got your money back and also you might be able to do something with what they sent you.

However, you still have the original problem - finding a good way to get the charcoal you want to your address.

I ordered two bags of JD lump from WW and they were delivered by someone driving a prius two days later.
