Using beer in brine for a Boston butt "Q"

As a homebrewer I have lots and lots of really good beer on hand all the time, and since I brine my Boston butts before smoking, I got to thinking.

Has any tried to use beer for the liquid part of a brine?

I am thinking about a darker beer like a stout, porter, or Brown Ale as opposed to Bud Light or something.

I have used beer like a water bath for butts. I have taken one of those disposable cooking trays, the kind you cook turkey in, just one of the smaller ones. I filled it with beer and put a rack over the liquid and sat the butt on the rack. It was very good. Use your favorite rub. I prefer I more pepper rub when I used the beer method and it was great. The butt is only a few inches from the liquid.

If your rack does not fit the tray very good, you can roll a few balls of tin foil and set the rack on it. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
