uncooked ham?

I have been waiting for Christmas time to smoke a ham. Somewhere I heard or read to smoke only an uncooked ham. Looking at the cooking topic on T.V.W.B it seems as though "prefinished" hams are ok. Any thoughts?
btw I do have a place to purchase uncooked hams.

I think your are talking about an uncured ham. I did my first one for thanksgiving. It was very good but just to give you a heads up it will not taste anything like what a store bought cured ham. It was a hit at thanksgiving and in fact everyone suggest we get rid of the turkey next year and just go with the ham.
