tying beef rib roast

Is it necessary to tie the beef rib roast before cooking. I'm going to cook a 7 lb roast tomorow and can't quite see how tying it will help it. The only thought is the lip on top of the roast couldd slide down while cooking?? If any one has any thoughts I'd be greatful. Thanks

Hi Tom, I am not an expert on this, since the first roast I did was Christmas day, but I did not tie it and it turned out great! BTW I used the Montreal Steak seasoning recipe from this site. Everyone loved it. Thanks Chris. HTP. Steve
