As I sit here in my brown VWB tshirt, I watched the Allingham/McGyver funnel vid. Both of you...frickin’ geniuses.
What I do is turn the mid-section about a quarter turn and apply the new lit coals to a different section. That way I’m not piling the coals in one section where the access door is. A little bit more labor and dexterity than you duct funnel, but it works. The key, like you said, is to put more coals than you think you’ll need.
