Transporting a kettle for a long trip ?

I'm headed down to see the folks, and I'm lugging one of the 22" kettles with me, in the back of my truck.
For short trips, like tailgating, I just stand it upright, against the cab, bungee the lid shut, bungee one of the legs to a tie down in the truck bed, and secure with a cargo bar.
I'll be taking a 5+ hr drive, hauling ***, at times and going through tunnels and over bridges and would prefer a more secure set up for travel.
What do you do? Lay the kettle face down, with the legs sticking in the air? I'm also taking a side table, but that breaks down and will fit in the back seat.
Thanks!
