Top sirloin average time vs weight

Hi all,

It has been a long time since I have been here. I have a 5.5 lb top sirloin roast and was wondering what should I figure the average cook time to be. Is it 20 mins per lb? More? I know I should rely on internal temperature, but I need to gage when to start. And, speaking of internal temperature, should it be at 135 degrees and then foil and let it sit? So many questions, so little time.

Thanks all for your help.

Hi again,

Just trying to get some confirmation on the above post.

I forgot to ask as well. Would it be better to cook in the 225 to 250 degree range and about how much time would that take for medium rare?

Thanks again.

According to " Joy Of Cooking " 250 runs 20-30 mins per lb.
20 mins I would guess would be on the rare side and 30 mins would be medium well.
I would split the difference for med rare.
A lot of variables come into play as how cold the roast is and average cooker temp on the WSM. A good thermo would be you're best bet.
HTH and good luck!

Awesome! Thanks Tim. About 2 1/2 hours give or take. (Plus added time for sitting) Now I can better gage when to have this ready for supper time. I think I just may take my first photos and post them for this. That prospect is a little scary for me being a newbie.
