Tips to anchor or weigh down WSM in high wind

We frequently get pretty high winds whipping up between the houses where I live.

Does anyone have any tips as to how I might anchor down the WSM to keep it in one place?

Thanks!

I'd build some sort of wind break and anchor that. If you have high enough wind that you are worried about it carrying the WSM away, it's going to play havoc with the cook. You probably need a wind break of some sort like a plywood box or something. Screw some eye hooks into it and anchor it down into the ground.

I thought up something last night. I had two boxes of fire bricks laying in the garage just looking for something to do. I placed them on top of the charcoal grate, assembled the smoker and placed the smoker cover on the unit. I then took a bungee cord and wrapped it around the smoker cover near the base. I don't think I'll have a problem with that.

I recently had my WSM get blown over under the carport. Luckily it had the cover on it and didn't damage anything. I moved it behind some of the other more stable grills. So far so good.

Hey Jamie...welcome to the party.
So far mine has weathered 40 miph gusts with no problem.
I have cooked in 20 mph with a hastily fashioned windbreak, but that was more for temp control than security,
My house is oriented north to south, with the the cooker placed on the west side.
Wind is problematic for long term cooks, other than that, it's no real problem.

Here in Boulder Colorado we can get some very, very strong wind. I haven't cooked in a real wind storm - but on days or nights when it has really been blowing (40-50mph) I look out expecting to see my 22.5 WSM toppled over. Hadn't moved an inch!

I am up here in NW Iowa and the winds are much worse that they seemed to be when I lived in Council Bluffs just across the river from Nebraska, anyways I use water in my water pan and when my winds have been higher I just put a bit more for weight and I completely close the vent that is wind direction so the wind has not affected me yet and the night of tornadoes in our area and very high winds where I was my WSM was out in the winds and shingles got ripped off my house but my WSM didnt move
