Time for some new stairs

This fine set of stairs came with the place.
I think they were here when the house was built in 1978.
My 86 year old mom goes down them and that No Bueno.

Yikes!
I 've built a lot of stairs. Never seen a cleated set with a 2" x 6" for a stringer. Need at least a 2" x 10" or better 2" x 12"

For the ones on the ground, maybe you could use railroad ties staked in with rebar, back filled with gravel or decomposed granite.

Well, the new set is almost completely done now.
There are a couple guys knocking out the punch list I made right now.
Over all I’m pretty happy with the new stairs and deck.
The contractor and his crew are decent people.
This cost bank but at least I don’t have to worry so much about my mom breaking her hip or whatever when she visits.
