Tilt up lid system

I was thinking how nice it would be if someone came up with a way to attach a hinged opener for the WSM lid. I was thinking a band system with a spring in the back. Similar to what some ceramic cookers have. That would really be a great modification. It could sell as a kit.

Sorry, that link didn't work. I was gonna show a picture of a band system from an imperial kamado. Like a Big Green Egg has.

Hi Shaun,

which part do you want translated ?
most of the text below the pictures is not construction related.

Thanks Frank, I thought it might be construction related. I think that set up might be a little akward on the 22 WSM since the lid is so much bigger. I still like the idea of the band system, but it would probably take a metal fabricator to make it.

That's a heck of a hinge system you found there George... Shaun, you "bet Jim Lampe could duplicate those."? If you mean me, I'd have to have a sample or get an engineer to look at the motion of the lid opening from the center unit of the WSM.
I'd like to see this and this close up.

Welcome aboard Jim! Well here's what I had in mind. A system like on the Big Green Egg. With or without a spring. Easy to install, remove and adjust. It could be sold as a kit for the 18.5 or 22.5 WSM. The beauty of it is that there probably wouldn't be any holes to drill. I also think it would be very stable since it has been working for so long on a BGE and other similar ceramic cookers. Here's a link to one. bands I just doubt that one of these would fit without some fabs.

i'm wondering if the angle of the kettle body would not allow bands unless there were a few holes drilled to hold them in place. not a biggy really. i just use the slide aside which works so well.

um, i don't. just get confused in the conversation. sorry. but now that ya bring it up, isn't the wsm kinda tippsy for this ? that lid is not that light. i imagine that the lid would have to be positioned towards a leg as it might tip if it was positioned in between the legs. 'am i making sense ?
