Temperature spikes

HM 4.3 with a MicroDamper on a KJ Classic. I'm seeing weird temp spikes on the thermocouple, it's clipped to the dome thermometer. My set temp is 215, and it holds there very well but every few minutes it'll jump 20-60 degrees for a half second then right back down. Any idea what may be causing this?

IDK what kind of TC you have, but if you have the type of connector that comes apart with a couple screws I would open it up and take a look at the wiring. I've seen spikes like this when I had loose or twisted TC wires inside the connector.

Try enabling the "A/C input line noise filter" option in the web config. Is it only showing noise spikes when it's outside?

I have the noise filter on, and I just checked the connections inside the thermocouple connector and they seem fine. Any chance there's an issue with a solder joint?

If it is an issue with a solder joint it would be at the TC jack, the 100K resistor for the TC, the corner pin of the ATMega nearest that resistor, or one of the SMD components.

I've checked the solder joints, everything looks good, and so do the connections in the thermocouple connector. Any idea what else could be causing these issues? Could it be a bad thermocouple?

could be, or bad tc cable... probably the easiest thing to troubleshoot, just get another cheap type K tc, if the problem goes away you nailed it. If not, then reconsider the above... since you're talking about a spike you are looking for a temporary issue with a solder joint, not necessarily something you would measure with a meter or see with the eye, because for the most part the connections are good, it's only brief moments when they are bad.

Got another one on the way, I guess we'll find out next week!

It was definitely the thermocouple. New one, from a different supplier, solved the problem. Seems like another member was having the same issue with the same thermocouple, so I'd avoid the alligator clip $9.99 TC on Amazon

Turns out it wasn't the thermocouple. Still having the issue. Any experts willing to help me out and trouble shoot my HM for a fee if I were to send it to them? Driving me nuts.
