Summit Kamado E6 Caster Inserts

I recently purchased a new Summit E6 that had already been assembled. Right away I noticed that two of the casters did not look like they were seated in proper alignment with their respective legs. When we lifted the grill out of my truck the front caster and insert fell right out of the leg. The fins on the insert appear to be damaged. Weber has sent me a repair kit that consists of three new inserts and safety bolts for removing the lid.
My questions for the forum are;
has anyone else had to replace these? It appears that originally the inserts come pre-installed in the legs.
Has anyone looked into modifying their WSK to the wheels and axle setup that was used on the first generation Summit Charcoal grills? I would be interested in this because I need to move the WSK across some uneven surfaces on occasion.
Any help or opinions will be appreciated.

Thank you for that link, at least I know that I'm not the only one!

Weber product support should help you out. It requires a fair amount of downward force to fully and properly insert those casters into each leg. For me, that was the most difficult part of my build.

If you do want to mod it, you'll prolly void the warranty. If the inserts and whatever they use for a flange can be removed and the ID of the legs are within these specs you can use something like this.
I used them on my SS outdoor table to wheel it around. Super happy with them.
I actually attempted to do something like this. I even took one of the legs to a local caster company for them to size it out. Unfortunately due to the screws/inserts near the bottom of the legs this is impossible with an E6 (2022 vintage). I'm still looking for an aftermarket solution. I have replaced the plastic inserts 3 times now. The most recent has lasted over a year and is still holding, but I am always nervous it is going to fail again as it is a PITA to replace due to the disassembly involved.

Yea you need like 2 3/8 clear to fit the sleeve and nut. Those bracing screw/bolts are in the way?

Yup. The folks at the caster place (who sell just about every type nationwide) said it was impossible without major modification.

Weber has sent a full set of new inserts to me and I will install them in a few days.
This is the first time in many years that I have needed to contact Weber Customer Service and it is definitely not what it once was. I used to speak with cs agents that new the products and could discuss options. This time I spoke with someone who could only read from a script and didn't know anything about the product.

An update on my caster issue.
I finally got around to addressing the wobbly wheels today. I purchased my WSK already assembled, I had to follow the instructions backwards to figure out the disassembly steps.
I used the safety bolts to secure the spring hinge, then removed the lid with the hinge attached. I was then able to lift the bowl out of the chassis and set it aside, then turn the chassis upside down.
Two of the three caster/insert units were damaged and loose enough to fall out.
The new inserts from Weber were a snug fit going into the legs, and required some light taps with a mallet to set them. The casters popped in place when enough downward force was applied.
Once I was finished with the casters it was easy to replace the bowl and reattach the lid.
While I was working on it I checked all the bolts holding the chassis together for tightness. The majority were not nearly tight enough, and some were only finger tight.
My son and I have really enjoyed grilling and smoking with this grill over the last month. Now with the wheel issues fixed I think we will like it even more.
Thank you all for your help.

Using the palms of your hands would’ve been more fun. And left you in pain for 5 days. Glad you had a mallet to save the day. Enjoy your “new” grill. Best cooker ever.
