Summit charcoal gas starter

I have a three year old summit charcoal. I love it, but I have had problems with the gas starter. It sputtered and I replaced it under warranty, but one year later it is doing it again. The flame ends up being intermittent and not a consistent burn. I cleaned it out with compressed air, but that doesn’t help. I could replace it again for sixty dollars, but I am wondering if there is some other trick.

I am wondering if the regulator is not well designed or what....

I think the regulator is bad on my performer, it will spit and sputter and go out several times , sounds like we have the same problem

That was more helpful than you might think. I didn't realize other grills had this starter, which helped me find some more hints. I cleaned the brass nozzle that feeds into the burner tube with a needle (remove the C clip). Now it seems to work like new. Thanks!
