Suggestions for Routing Thermometer Probes?

Gee, bummer. I did not read it well enough.

I bought the Maverick ET-732 and the BBQ Guru Eyelet kit so I can route the probe wires nicely and out of the way. I received both this evening and I discovered the ET-732 are too big for the BBQ Guru Eyelets. In the eyelet description, it says that exact thing.

I guess I was too excited to read the fine print.

Any suggestions for the wire probe routing that does not include going through the top vent, drilling new holes or under the lid?

Are the good people at BBQ Guru going to make bigger eyelets?

I've read that a lot of guys remove one of the bolts from one of the rack brackets and replace it with threaded lamp rod and a nut on either side of the smoker. Bigger hole that allows for larger probes and probes with 90-degree bends.

Gene,

Here's a link to Cajun Bandit's website. They sell the proper size grommets for your ET-732 (3/8")

I don't know a way, other than drilling, to install grommets for the probes. I did try, for awhile, placing the probe(s) under the lid but started to notice a slight fraying of the cable so I drilled the middle section with no problem and installed a homemade copper grommet. Used a piece of masking tape over where I wanted to drill and using a sharp punch made a place to start the drill. Drilled hole with no chipping of the porcelain.

Hey, Gene, I'm your neighbor in Falls Church!

That threaded rod mod you linked to is the one I did. The drilling was no problem and everything fit perfectly fine. And you can get a threaded cap that is a little smaller (and makes for a cleaner install) at a good hardware store. I would recommend Brown's Hardware in Falls Church-- I get all of my grill hardware there.

A month ago I bought the bigger size so I could hook up my Guru to a Weber Performer. The bigger size easily handles the ET 732 and the probes for the Guru.
