Sugar in beef rubs?

I was reading on another site that rubs for beef are typically pepper based and not sweet. They suggest sugar primarily for pork.

Do y'all typically use sugar in your beef rubs?

I think that a little sugar inhances all BBQ meats, but especially pork. It really seems to bring out the succulence of pork. Having said that, I think a no-sugar rub for beef would be just fine.

I tried sugar once on beef ribs and I didn't like it. I now basically use the same rub that I put on briskets -- no sugar.

You can sweeten them up if you want to by saucing them at the end.

I make a simple rub that I like to use on everything. It has a good bit of brown sugar in it. I made it with pork butt and ribs in mind, but I love it on brisket and beef ribs as well. It has a good bit of cumin in it, I would bet that without that it wouldn't work on beef very well.
