Success on the fly

So yesterday the wife and I didn't feel like going food shopping because we are leaving for the outerbanks on Thursday.

Well we decided to have pulled pork sandwiches. So I defrosted a picnic, cut off the skin, rubbed and through on the smoker. I used the "savory brisket dry rub" from the beef recipes section, that I had left over from a brisket cook, a couple chunks of hickory, wild cherry, and sugar maple. Through a fattie on stuffed with cheese and the skin I cut off the picnic (for the dog). Smoked for six hours. While it was rested in the foil, I was going to mix up Bryan S's finishing sauce. It was at that point I realized I committed an egregious error. I ran out of butter! But I did have some of Larry R's worcestershire compound butter. So in the finishing sauce I used the compound butter and I got to tell you it was awesome! My wife had 2 sandwiches and she can usually only eat 1! I had 3.

Gerry, Glad it turned out good for you. Some of my best cooks have been when I had to improvise/run with what you have on hand.
