You could use an app like Splashtop and just run a remote desktop. http://www.splashtop.com/

You can also set up email and then check them with your favorite email program.

I tried but could not get the stoker program to send me e-mails.

I do wish we could get the Twitter functionality back. I have tried all kinds of config. changes but it fails spectacularly every time.
