Just a friendly reminder to everyone out there. This is a trick I learned in my teen years, back when we had to change the channel on the TV by walking over to it.
When cleaning the grates, if you step to the side and clean them, you won't get all that black char stuff all over your fancy white t shirt. It is very tempting to clean "head on" and straight in, but if you do, you and your clothes will receive the soot and ash during every cleaning stroke, so:
Step aside, please!
