Steel grill brush?

Hello I'm a new member. I have a Q300 grill that is now 7 years old. The grates just completely disintegrated and I replaced them. I guess they did last 7 years but I was wondering if I should use a steel grill brush on them. I did on my old grates.

I have read in some places that a steel brush takes the finish off the grates and makes them deteriorate. What would your recommendations be? I'm about to use a steel brush to clean the burner tubes but have just been using a nylon brush on the new grates which are now about 3 weeks old.

Thanks for whatever assistance you can all provide.

Thanks. I'm just wanting to make sure my grates last longer. The new grates have been great so far.

Are the replacement grates the new thicker porcelain enameled kind? According to what Weber told me, stainless steel brushes are fine, just don't use metal scrapers, as they could chip off the porcelain. And be a certain to wipe or blow down the grates after using stainless steel brush or you could end up with steel bristles in your food.
