Hi all. Driving through my neighborhood a few weeks ago I saw a Weber kettle sitting on the curb along with a bunch of junk. After work I stopped by for a closer look and it was a red SS Performer (EZ). The bowl and lid are in decent condition. The SS cart is toast along with the ash catcher and one-touch cleaner. So the only thing I kept was the bowl and lid. I've been cleaning it up and attempting to remove the rust and make it my own.

I've purchased a new ash catcher and one-touch cleaner and new legs and wheels (I'm just going to make it a OTG). I got out the ole Dremel tool and cut some notches in the leg holes for the newer style ash catcher. Basically I've got all the bases covered except for one thing. The handle on the lid is missing. There are two holes in the lid where the handle was attached but after doing some looking, am I wrong to say that all the older Performer handles were welded on?

Anyway, does anyone have any ideas about how to fabricate a new handle for the lid. I've done some searching on here and haven't found anything yet. This handle is all I need to get this beast up and running. Thanks for any help.

Actually I called Weber this afternoon and that's where I first learned that the handle is welded on. They said that is a part that can't be replaced.

I was told to call them and order a handle for a 26" 2010 model. That one is apparently a bolt-on version. Is this what you're talking about?

Thanks.

If you would like to make your own, go to HD or Lowes and grab a 12" length of 1/8" x 5/8" Aluminum Flat Stock.
I made some for my WSM, and its pretty easy to bend the FS while using a replacement handle as the template.
I'm out of town right now, but if your interested I'll post some pics later today or t-morrow.

Thanks for all the ideas. I ended up calling Weber and ordering the handle for the 26" 2010 kettle. Hopefully that will take care of it. If not, then I'll resort to making my own with Tim's instructions. Thanks again.

I've converted this red Performer into a regular OTG, sanded and painted, installed the one-touch and ash catcher and have the grates. I'm just missing a lid handle! Can't wait to use this baby.
