Something STINKY

Putting here because last night was not supposed to be filet for supper but Chilean Sea Bass on the Ninja. I'd made my special EVOO/lemon zest and Mediterranean herb marinade, I was going to seal the 2 delicious little fillets in my new chamber sealer with that for about an hour and put those on the Ninja. Well, weirdly, I'd been chasing what I thought was the smell of spilled milk in my fridge. Well.............I found it yesterday. I took the package of fish out, and noted it "looked a bit odd". Well I opened it and the mystery was over! YIKES! Holy :poop: talk about a stench!
Oddly the package was still perfectly vacuum sealed as I got it from Sam's. When I buy fish there it's ALWAYS been great and I always look for the one with the furthest expiration date. Not because I want to store it but so assure myself of having the freshest one. The fish at Sam's always has a source shown, date caught, date processed, where caught and date packaged plus "use by" date.
I am sure this may have been a package some no good little urchin or no couth adult likely picked up, carried around the store, and left with the cookies or something, then had someone thinking they'd done right thing, place it back in fish counter. Absolute shame! Stuff ain't cheap. Called Sam's they said just bring in a photo and I'll get a refund. Anyway it's why it was filet mignon last night treated to my marinade.
As to why the zip lock my trash day is not until late Friday AM/early PM and I did not want this sitting around festering. So I tossed it in zip lock, sealed and cleaned and stuck in freezer.

What puzzled me was how much it smelled like bad dairy product and had me searching the fridge every which way to Sunday for a day or so. Thing is it was amazing how much "stink" got out of a fully sealed package!

They do put fish " markdowned " when it's close to use by date.
I had some cod filets I fried up yesterday. Smelt a little fishy but not bad.

yuck!!! I had something similar happen with ribs at Costco.....I tried to call them, but no one ever answers the damn phone! I quadruple wrapped the package and took it to the store....they asked the reason for the return and I showed them the bag and said, "Want me to open it?" Refund was very quickly applied...
