Due to a resent storm I lost most of my Persimon Tree.
Has anyone use Persimon for smoking?

Michael, I don't have personal experience with persimmon yet but that's gonna change. I had a huge persimmon tree taken down in the Spring. All that wood's seasoning out now so I should be the national expert on smoking with this wood at some point
Seriously, I understand that it is a very dense wood, even more that hickory. I read an extention service paper aimed at those burning wood for heat that rated the BTU's produce by a variety of hardwoods and persimmon was just above hickory. They said it burns hot and slow. one website said to use persimmon with pork and beef.
I wonder what's an optimal length of time for wood to season before use. Any thoughts?
