Smokin on Gas-Foil Logs

Hi guys,

Sorry if this question has been repeatedly asked over and over, but I was searching through the archives and saw that in order for q'ers to get the BBQ flavor on gas, they use foil logs with wood chips inside. Can anyone describe for me how to make this? I have an old char-broil (maybe circa 1999-2000?) that I'm about to rebuild (piece of junk, but i'm on a budget) and I would like to know how exactly you go about making a foil log with chips inside? Do you soak the chips? How big do you make it?

Thanks so much in advance!

Don't know about a log, but you can simply make a pouch/envelope from a 9 x 18" piece of HD aluminum foil-- it ends up being about 6 x 6", enclose a cup or so of soaked wood chips, seal it up tight, and poke one hole in the top.

just to reiterate something in Doug's note... make sure you use Heavy Duty foil. It's imperative, as normal thin foil burns through very quickly. HD foil can withstand hot coals.
