I've got a SJS. Never really had much luck with it. After finding tjis site I have hope again. Would it be better to do the "can" mod or drill some holes in the side like the Gold? Any pictures of the "can" mod?

The "can mod" covers the vent holes in the bottom of the SJS, which keeps them from being clogged by ashes. There's a picture in this thread:

After I made a charcoal ring out of $10 Home Depot expanded metal...

I made an ash blocker for the lower vent

The 'cap' was just a scrap piece of aluminum I had after cutting out the bottom of a tamale pot while building my mini
