I just got a Smokey Joe gold edition and it doesn't have any vents on the bottom and obviously comes with no ash catcher tray. My other regular Smokey Joe silver does have vents on the bottom and the ash tray. Any idea why the Gold model has no vents?
Thanks

your vents are on the side where the handle attaches.its just like the smokey joe platinum they used to make. there are posts about modifing a platinum
here
and here
but the platinum is an 18" grill that you can add the one touch system to. you could drill holes in your gold and add the vent and pan from a silver.
or look for a 18 ots used and cut the legs off like this and be done

I only have room for my smokey joe at the moment (dumb apartment complex). Where did you get the awesome colors for the Joes?!? Mine's a boring black gold model. Speaking of the vents, if you're careful about how you arrange the charcoal, there is no problem with the venting. Side vents make it the ultimate in travel grills (IMO), because you don't really have to worry about ash all over your car.

There is a LOT of conversation about how the SJG vents in the portable grills forum (for example here), including vent mods, charcoal banking methods, etc.

I have a Smokey Joe Silver and was wondering if I can purchase any type of adapter for the carrying handle. It would be nice to be able to pick it up while hot.

jerry, you could order the handle with notch and the locking wire part from weber. then just drill the two holes for the wire. or make yer own wire and notch the handle ya got.

I had to get my copper Smokey from a friend in Denmark. Missed out when they were here at linens and things. I got my green one about a year and a half ago from bed bath and beyond. They dont make these anymore. I bought 2 of the green ones at the time. One is still sealed in the box. I dont use the green or copper ones though! Thats what my black one is for!
