Smoker temp for pork butt

Houston, we have a problem......

Fired up the bullet, got the temp in the 230 range, took off to run a few errands. Came back and the side door had fell off, and temp got to be in the high 300's. Took the butt off and got the temp back down to around 280. I don't think it's going to get much lower. Put the butt back on and closed all the vents except the top.

Am I ok cooking at around 280? Obviously not the preferred temp, but I'm thinking it's ok.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks.

You will be fine. Butts can handle a wide cooking range. Many people actually prefer doing them at 280. It may get done a little earlier than you planned, but you can hold them for 4-5 hours wrapped in foil in a cooler with a few newspapers or towels around the foiled butt.
