SMOKER 22.5


 
I JUST BOUGHT A WSM 22.5 AND I AM VERY EXCITED TO GET IT,I THANK EVERYONE FOR THEIR COMMENTS AND ADVICE,WHAT ARE SOME MUST HAVE ACCESSORIES THAT I NEED,I'M LOOKING TO TRY RIBS ,TURKEY ,ROAST ETC.
 
Gregory, Welcome to the addiction!
Much has been written about the 'must have' tools and gadgets; what I have found I really need is:
1)A good chimney to get your charcoal started.
2)A quality digital (wireless)thermometer. I have the Maverick ET-732 and love it!
3)A pair of high heat gloves (such as welding gloves) Used to remove the meat when it is finished on the smoker.
4)A table beside the WSM to place your tools, foil, meat on durring or after the cook. this one isn't quite as important, but sure comes in handy.
Again, several posts have been dedicated to this very topic, and maybe others will add to the list. This is however the things I have found to be most crucial to a successful/enjoyable cook.

Tim's list looks good. The thermometer is very important, at least to me. I do have a large oil drain pan that I got from Walmart online to set my smoker on. I like setting it up in my backyard and don't want to start a grass fire. I think I paid about $10 for the pan using Walmart's free ship to store.

If you don't have them already, a good set of fairly long (grilling) tongs and spatula are handy too.

Im new to the WSM too, but have been grilling on a Weber Kettle for years. In addition to what is listed in previous replies, I have to have LOTS of heavy duty foil and my 2 heavy aluminum sheet pans for moving meat and stuff around. I also love using my Therma-pen by Thermoworks. Welcome and HAVE FUN!

Bourbon, to set down on #4. Congrats on your WSM!
 
I recently added the Pitmaster IQ and so far I'm very happy with it. I also have a therma-pen. Couldn't cook without it.
 
I second everything listed. Of these, what I use most are the heavy duty foil and welding gloves. I use my remote thermometer every cook, too, but honestly that's a crutch. Don't get me wrong, it's very nice to have. It allows me to do a lot of other things while still being able to monitor temps, but I could easily get by without it.
