SmokeFire Reverse Sear

Anyone experienced with reverse searing on the SmokeFire? Looking to reverse sear some New York Strips tonight. Would like the final cook to be medium-well. Seen some cook on the top rack grates initially and then finish up with the sear on the bottom grates. As the right side of the grill gets hotter do you sear on the right?

I sear mine right of center. For the cook portion top or bottom works. Personal preference. I have seared at 600 and 500 degrees and both work.

I cook at 225 until 15 degrees from my desired temp, pull steaks and put on plate and cover with foil. Then crank grill to 500-525 and when it gets there sear 4-6 minutes flipping every minute. Though who in their right mind goes medium well? ;)

Many thanks to everyone for their suggestions. The reverse-seared steaks turned out really good - somewhat time-consuming but very flavorful. Note to thy self start cooking earlier.
On my Performer the indirect side ran 300 to 350 and worked great on steaks. One way to cut down on the time is set the grill to 350 and cook in the coolest zone which is less than set temp. Mine is left rear. Then crank it up to 500 which takes very little time and sear right of center. I put two 15" GrillGrates in my sear zone to start and 500 is more than hot enough. I cook to medium rare but it should work even better for medium well. Play with it.

Cooking on the top rack on the left, I initially shot for a lower temperature in the 200-225 range for a more smoky flavor and later cranked it up to 350. The temperature dropped during my cook to 190 and after stirring the pellets and it went right back up... so I will be removing the finger guard soon.

SF kicks up too much ash for me to griddle for an extended time, the Q320 is keeping its duties for that.235D6EEE-9538-4EF5-AAA4-7897B388D333.jpeg
