size of wood pieces

I purchased a sack of Weber firespice hickory chunks and some of the pieces seem a little large. Do you use them that large, some of them are 1x2x3 inches. In my gas watersmoker pan will they just burn longer and slower, or should I cut them up.

When you cut you own chunks what size do you like.

Never seen the sizes of those Weber chunks. I use fist-sized pieces and use 4 of them. You shouldn't have to cut those chunks any smaller.

I have also used small split logs that are just long enough to fit inside the charcoal ring.

You should also monitor the amounts you use. Smoke flavor is a very personal preference and you need to find your ideal amount.
